5 Questions to Ask Wedding Venues

When it comes to wedding planning, finding the venue is the first step! It often drives all other vendor decisions. Therefore, it’s important to pick the spot that is perfect for YOU - so make sure you are prepared with all the right questions. Here are a few that we think are most important:

Question # 1 - How many hours are part of the venue package?

Most venues give you 8 hours on the day of, but this is no guarantee. You have to consider how much time both your bridal party and vendors will need, so the time frame can be crucial. We’ve witnessed several brides adding hours at the last minute, and the price is usually quite high!

Question #2 - Can I bring in my own vendors?

Often venues have a very particular set of vendors that they like to work with. It makes it easier on them to organize every wedding, and they know that the vendors are good quality. But, this also can take away some of your wedding creativity. Make sure to ask this question if you have certain vendors in mind already!

Question #3 - Is the package price all inclusive, or is it a starting price?

Some venues provide a nice, neat package that includes everything you need. Others give you a starting price, and then your decisions drive how much the costs go up. Remember, there are a lot more costs than simply the venue. You must consider catering, rentals, entertainment...the list goes on! So, make sure to find out exactly what is included in the price.

Question #4 - Do you have any “odd” rules?

This may seem like a silly, generic question, but it’s an important one! Wedding venues have met tons of couples and guests, and they often create “new” rules based on incidents that have occurred. It’s better to check in the beginning that to find out later.

Question #5 - What is your payment and cancellation policy?

Of course cancellation is not what you want to think about when picking a wedding venue, but life happens! We’ve worked with several brides who have simply changed their minds and found other venues they like better. Especially keep in mind the cancellation and payment dates that the venue gives you. Some will allow you out of the contract up to a certain point, but the penalty increases as the date approaches.

And, of course most of all, find a venue that fits the two of you! It’s one of the BEST days of your life, so you want to find a very special place.

Happy Hunting!
